Job Description

Job Title: Layer House Maintenance Technician

Position Type: Full-Time
Reports to: Production Manager
Employment Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $25/hr. (DOE)


Job Brief: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our layer facilities, including all related equipment. The ideal candidate will excel in making quality repairs, implementing preventative maintenance programs, and performing all tasks safely and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical failures in state-of-the-art cage-free lay houses.
  • Develop and execute an effective preventative maintenance plan.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform necessary maintenance and service.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, oil changes, adjustments, repairs, rebuilds, and inspections.
  • Identify and source necessary replacement parts, maintaining a well-organized inventory.
  • Prioritize repairs when multiple maintenance needs arise simultaneously.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of all electrical units and systems within the facility.
  • Assist in equipment overhauls and rebuild parts as needed.
  • Document repairs and suggest improvements to the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Lead and train other maintenance staff as needed.
  • Adhere to safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, while performing maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager, Supervisor, and team leads to minimize downtime and complete repairs by the end of the day.
  • Perform uptime and downtime inspections, lubrication, and preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and water systems, as well as rotating and stationary equipment such as motors and gearboxes.
  • Maintain clear communication across all facility departments.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ensure regular, consistent, and predictable attendance.


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in plumbing installation and repair
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Familiarity with power, electric, and hand tools
  • Ability to repair various drive systems and conduct heater and fan repairs
  • Competence in reading schematics and technical drawings
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to continuously lift/move/push/pull objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent climbing of ladders and occasional work at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Sufficient vision to perform essential job tasks safely.


Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required; Technical Degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must pass a mechanical test.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Experience with machine modification and rebuilds is a plus.
  • Proficiency in shop math and the ability to interpret basic measuring equipment.


Work Schedule:

  • Typically starts at 6 am, though this may vary depending on department needs.
  • Typical end time is around 4:30 pm but may vary.
  • 5 days a week with the possibility of 6 days as required.


Start Date: Negotiable, with a preference for sooner rather than later. Willing to accommodate notice periods for current employment.
