Key Staffing is seeking to hire Lumber Yard Workers in Shafter,CA.

Position Overview: The Lumber Yard Worker plays a crucial role in the lumber industry, responsible for operating various machinery and equipment used in the processing and production of lumber. This position involves handling raw timber, processing it into usable lumber, and ensuring that the quality and quantity meet industry standards. The Lumber Operator operates equipment safely, follows production schedules, and contributes to the overall efficiency of the lumber mill or processing facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Operation: Operate and control machinery and equipment used in the lumber production process, including saws, planers, conveyors, and other specialized machinery.

Timber Handling: Receive, inspect, and position raw timber logs onto the processing equipment, ensuring proper alignment and safety.

Cutting and Processing: Use saws and other cutting tools to convert timber logs into lumber according to specified dimensions and quality standards.

Quality Control: Monitor the lumber production process to ensure the finished products meet quality requirements, including size, thickness, and smoothness.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out parts, to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety guidelines and protocols when operating machinery and handling lumber, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Production Monitoring: Keep track of production output, documenting the volume of lumber processed and identifying any issues that may affect productivity or quality.

Material Handling: Assist in the movement and transportation of lumber products within the facility using forklifts or other material-handling equipment.

Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team with other operators, production workers, and supervisors to meet production goals and address any challenges that arise.

Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that sawdust, waste, and debris are properly disposed of to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.

Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or operational issues and report them to supervisors for further evaluation and repair.

Process Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements that can enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize lumber production.

Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to the lumber production process, waste management, and pollution prevention.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in lumber processing, sawmills, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various lumber processing machinery and equipment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Physical stamina to handle heavy and bulky materials and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on producing high-quality lumber products.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and the ability to follow safety guidelines at all times.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work in shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions, depending on the nature of the lumber operation.
