Job Description

Key Staffing is currently seeking a Bird Handling Specialist II for a company located in Wasco, CA.


The Bird Handling Specialist II is responsible for supporting all aspects of the barns. This role involves performing a variety of skilled, unskilled, and semi-skilled poultry-related tasks in accordance with specific instructions and a well-established routine. Work is subject to general supervision through inspections and review of results.

The Bird Handling Specialist II is responsible for adhering to all State and Federal regulations, including but not limited to FDA, USDA, SQF, and Cal/OSHA.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include, but are not limited to:

Daily Tasks

  • Record water meter readings, feed, inventory, and house temperatures.
  • Inspect water nipples three times daily.
  • Remove all mortality daily.
  • Blow down house, sweep floors.
  • Check and raise water lines, feed birds as needed.
  • Replace and refill water filters and containers.
  • Assist with bird placement.
  • Clean droppings and waste from the floor using a broom, shovel, backhoe, or manure-cleaning machine.
  • Clean fans and cool cell pads as needed.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Repair farm buildings, fences, and crates using hand tools.
  • Move equipment using a wheelbarrow, truck, cart, or by carrying from one area to another.
  • Clean front rollers after manure belts run.
  • Clean back scrapes after manure belts run.
  • Safely use a vaccination gun.
  • Work on raised surfaces such as scaffolding, several feet above the ground.

Weekly Tasks

  • Check all bait stations and replace baits as needed or per program.
  • Replace glue boards in tin cats.
  • Check all fly cards.
  • Maintain all paperwork related to rodent control.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Cyclical Recurring Tasks

  • Vaccination of poultry.
  • Depopulation of poultry.
  • Transfer poultry to different locations.


Other Responsibilities as Requested:

  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management.


Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, or ability necessary to perform this job successfully.


Education/Experience:

  • No experience is required, although some farming experience is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • Must possess a current California Driver’s License with a record acceptable to the company.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a forklift certification.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts and hand tools.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationships that encourage openness, candor, and trust.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Possess good judgment, dependability, adaptability, and punctuality.


Education Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • Three (3) years of lead role experience preferred.
  • Five (5) years of manufacturing experience in the feed industry with commodities preferred.
